This book is a true story of my time in the Service. A young man just graduated from high school, drafted into the US army and my draft notice read July 4th, 1966. Well at the time, as you well know, there was a conflict (it was called a conflict, not a war) going on in the country of Vietnam. At the time I had never heard of Vietnam and I certainly did not expect to go there. Well you now know how that worked out. I was just 19 at the time. You will go on to read about what I had to go through living in the jungles of Vietnam after just 8 weeks of basic training. Most soldiers who went into combat first went to AIT advanced infantry training. I did not. I went to clerical school and then armorer school and was trained in repairing small arms weapons. When I got to Vietnam and reported to my unit the 4th of the 23rd 25th infantry division they had no need of someone for clerical work. I was then sent out to the field in the capacity of an armorer to fix weapons in combat. So now I had to fight and fix weapons. And the story goes on about all the things I had to do. I spent my time being careful about everything that I did. You don't get much sleep so you are tired all the time and it becomes hard to do things to keep yourself safe. I now spend my time with my wife of 50 years and we travel in our RV and have adventures. I also help other Veterans get disability and anything else I can do to help them. That is why a portion of the profits from the sale of my book will go to help homeless Veterans. That is my passion. I had help from my guardian angel to stay alive so I feel obligated to help less fortunate veterans that can't get past what they had to go through in the hell we were in.
